POINT OF NO RETURN
‘Forgiving the past for not being the past’
- Andrea Gilbson, poet, activist and performer
Commissioned by Aerowaves Spring Forward 2024, ’Point of No Return’ is the fruit of a compact encounter project between two choreographers from multicultural backgrounds, Chen-Wei LEE (TW) and Zoltan VAKULYA (HU), with three talented dancers and performers, Julia Alsdorf (DE/NL), Zoé Léoty Ducros (FR) and Pihla Jaala (FI) from the BA and MA studies of Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK).
This new initiative aims at connecting Aerowaves artists with local dance ecologies through knowledge-sharing practice and creating a presentation in the festival frame.
In ’Point of No Return’ the artistic approach of LEE\VAKULYA is to test (in)visible borders through choreography practices, questioning and challenging the fine line of the power game and bringing people together regardless of differences.
Their choreography reflects the relationships of performers v.s. spectators, artists v.s. programmers and shines the light on individuality of performers by embracing their differences also empowering their potentiality of creativity.
’Point of No Return’ invites the audience to gaze, to experience the flow in between intimate, distant moments in public space. Every circle changes the dynamic between people and the space; every single moment lasts and vanishes. The point of no return seems to be the end of the journey, but it will kick off the beginning of another life path at the same time.
